“Just...
isn't giving up allowed sometimes? Isn't it okay to say, ‘This really hurts, so
I’m going to stop trying’?”
“It sets a
dangerous precedent.”
“For avoiding
pain?”
“For avoiding
life.”

Review:
"This
book is about me! Why didn't you tell me earlier?!" Was the text message I
sent my friend after reading a couple of chapters. She’s also the one who
forced me to read Fangirl and I am so grateful that she did! This book has been
sitting on my shelf for more than a year and there was always that one book
that I wanted to read more than Fangirl and shame on me. This book has been
such a fantastic ride. The main character, Cath, was me, they just misspelled
my name. (insert laughing noise here.) I couldn't stop reading it, one night I
discovered it was already 2 AM and I had to get up at 7 AM. No regrets at all.
When I was a
teenager I used to write fanfiction as well. It was actually a pretty big part
of my life. Reading about a teen doing the exact same thing felt nostalgic to
be honest. We saw the main character grow while still keeping her personality,
which was a new way for me to experience character development.
One issue I’d
like to address though is the actual fanfiction parts. At first, I read through
them. Then I started skimming through them. In the end I decided I just wasn’t
interested in those parts at all, so I skipped them. That’s the reason I’ll
probably never read Rainbow Rowell’s Carry On. (As it’s a book about the whole
fanfiction thing.)
I would
recommend this book to anyone.

Wow for a new blog. This is so nice and neat! I feel related to Cath, too and did not understand the fanfiction. I probably will not read the Carry on as well. Btw, congrats for being book blogger! Welcome to the club :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Hana! That means a great deal to me! No, I suppose the fanfiction parts aren't for everyone. Thank you again! I love being a blogger even though there is a lot I still have to learn. :)
